AN ARENA OF MEMORIES

July 9, 2001

The first time I ever stepped foot in Market Square Arena was on Tuesday, September 13, 1988.  It was a WWF Superstars of Wrestling taping and the main event was for the WWF World Title, Randy"Macho Man"Savage defended the title against the late great, Andre The Giant.  The match ended when The Giant grabbed Miss Elizabeth's ankle was disqualified.  I'm not sure why but they ushered Elizabeth out like she had been shot.

Throughout the years, some of the biggest events have occurred at Market Square Arena, including Andre The Giant pinning Hulk Hogan for the WWF Title and then giving the title to "The Million Dollar Man," Ted DiBiase.

MSA also served host to several sports-entertainment shows.  This is a list of the shows Indianapolis has hosted: WWF In Your House: Buried Alive, WWF RAW is WAR, WCW Monday Nitro, WCW Thunder, WWF Live Events, WWF The Main Event, WWF Survivor Series Showdown, WCW Live Events, WWF Superstars of Wrestling and WWF Sunday Night Heat.  In fact, the last WWF event ever to take place at MSA was indeed, Sunday Night Heat in June of 1999.

Any sports-entertainer, who has ever laced up the old wrestling boots, has graced Market Square Arena's floors.

MSA was created on paper in February 1971 with its first act in September 1974.  With all of the events from sports-entertainment, to concerts, basketball games, and family-entertainment shows, that has occurred at Market Square Arena - there has been nothing like the world of wrestling.

The physical building of Market Square Arena may have been destroyed yesterday morning, but the memories of going to the shows with my family, will live forever!
