WWE The Great American Bash Press Conference
Indianapolis, Indiana @ Conseco Fieldhouse
July 17, 2006

Earlier today, fans packed the Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana for the press conference for WWE's next pay-per-view, The Great American BashWWE The Great American Bash takes place this Sunday at the Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana exclusively on pay-per-view.  There are a few more tickets available.  For more information visit
Ticketmaster.com or call (317) 239-5151.

The press conference began around 12:05 PM when Josh Matthews was introduced.  He welcomed the fans, the members of the press and those fans watching live on
WWE.com.  He mentioned it has been ten years since a pay-per-view has been in Indianapolis, Indiana.  He also said The Great American Bash has been around for nearly twenty years.  Different main events
for the pay-per-view have ranged from Ric Flair v/s Sting to Batista v/s "JBL" John Bradshaw Layfield for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.  Matthews then brings up one of the matches scheduled for The Great American Bash to determine a new Number One Contender.  It was originally scheduled to be "The Animal" Batista v/s "The World's Strongest Man" Mark Henry.  However, as WWE.com reported this past weekend, Henry was injured during a match on Saturday Night's Main Event and would be evaluated by his doctor.  He said to stay tuned to WWE.com for the latest information on Henry's injury.  He then welcomed the former World Heavyweight Champion...BATISTA!

The theme song for Batista, "I Walk Alone" by Saliva, began to play before the fans all stood up and began cheering.  "The Animal" came to the podium and couldn't even speak because the fans were chanting "BATISTA!" so loudly.  He then asked if the fans were ready to be bored because he didn't have a lot to say.  He said he is now without an opponent.  He thought Henry said to himself, "If everything Batista did with that chair was just a taste of what's going to happen at the Bash...OUCH MY KNEE!"  Batista said he still has all of the anger and frustration so he's going to make an open challenge.  He closed by saying, "Someone is going to get their ass kicked!"

Matthews returned to the podium and reminded everyone of the ECW World Heavyweight Champion, The Big Show challenging The Undertaker at Saturday Night's Main Event for tomorrow a ECW World Heavyweight Championship match on ECW on Sci Fi.  He then said it's possible The Undertaker will walk into the arena on Sunday as the ECW World Heavyweight Champion.  Matthews then introduced the man who originally challenged Undertaker to a Punjabi Prison Match.  The Great Khali and his manager, Davari, made their way to the podium.  Davari stated the punishment Khali dished out at Judgment Day won't even be close to the punishment Khali dishes out this Sunday.  He said that Khali will lay The Undertaker out for good and then will become the new phenom of the WWE.  Khali said a few words in his native language which lead to the crowd chanting "WHAT?"  At this point, Khali raised his arms and posed.  Batista, who was sitting to the right of where Khali was standing, acted like he was going to get sick and then began to fan himself with a piece of paper that was on the table.

Matthews once again returned to the podium and announced that the new WWE United States Champion, Finlay will defend the championship against William Regal and the former champion, Bobby Lashley this Sunday at The Great American Bash.  Matthews then introduced Lashley who gained a standing ovation.  The former United States Champion banged fists with Batista and then removed his suit jacket; afterwhich a young lady in the audience shouted "Take off your shirt!"  Lashley laughed and said "Nah, I won't be doing that."  Lashley stated he will not be complaining about losing the United States Championship to Finlay in controversial fashion.  He said Finlay can bring the Little Bastard if he wants but the title will be going back where it belongs...around Lashley's waist.

It was now time for the introduction of King Booker and his queen, Sharmell.  Matthews stated Booker would be challenging for Rey Mysterio's World Heavyweight Championship.  After he introduced Booker and Sharmell, Sharmell came out and stated that was no way to introduce a king.  She then gave an introduction fit only for a king and forces Matthews to lower his head.  Booker slowly came out to the podium to a chorus of boos.  When he walked to where Sharmell and Matthews were, he forced Matthews to kiss his hand.  Batista made a face at Matthews and scooted his chair farther away from Batista.  Booker stated that Sunday will begin a new era and a great day in America when he becomes King of the World.  He stated the World Heavyweight Championship will go to the royal kingdom.

There was one more wrestler who needed to be heard and that man was the man deemed the best man on Friday Night SmackDown! because he currently holds the World Heavyweight Championship.  Josh Matthews returned to the podium after Booker and Sharmell sat down and introduced Rey Mysterio.  Mysterio's theme song, "Booyaka" by P.O.D., began to play as the fans started cheering for the underdog.  Mysterio and Booker came face to face before Mysterio began to speak.  He stated that he does not compete and carry the gold for himself.  The fans then began to chant "EDDIE!  EDDIE!" for the late-great Eddie Guerrero.  Rey knows that Eddie is one step ahead of him and will take care of him.  Rey doesn't know why King Booker thinks he will win the World Heavyweight Championship on Sunday because he (Mysterio) will win and retain the championship.  He said that King Booker likes to tell people to bow down but at the end of the match it's going to be Booker who will be bowing down to Mysterio.  Mysterio closed by saying that Booker is just one move away from the 6...1...9!

The fans cheered for Mysterio as Matthews returned to the podium.  He stated it was time for the fans to ask the WWE Superstars questions.  The first question was from a young black lady who asked Lashley what his strategy will be going into the Triple-Threat Match.  She then asked if she could get a hug when he was done answering.  He said that the entire King's Court can be at ringside but he will win the championship back and then asked if he could ask a question of his own and asked when was the last time King Booker won a match and why he was so lippy.  He then said for Booker not to worry about answering the question because he had a hug to give.

The second question from the audience was for King Booker.  A man asked where Booker will be celebrating after he beats Mysterio.  However, by the time he was done asking, the entire lobby was booing him because he was obviously a fan of Booker's and not Mysterio's.  Booker stated he would be celebrating the biggest party of the year here in Indianapolis.

The final question was directed towards The Great Khali and Daivari.  The fan asked what exactly is a Punjabi Prison Match.  Before Daivari or Khali could answer, King Booker announced it was a match where Khali takes you into a cell and makes you into the little boy that you are.  After the King and fan traded insults for a few minutes, Daivari stated, "I couldn't say it any better."  So we still do not know what this mysterious match is.  No matter what it is, The Undertaker better be ready.

It was at this time the fans left the Fieldhouse and the press was treated to some one-on-one interviews with some of the WWE Superstars.  Read the exclusive WU Online interviews with WWE Superstars by
